Home batteries deliver a record 745 megawatts to California's grid
When a heat wave pushed up California’s power demand in early October, home batteries stepped in like a power plant. Electrek reports that on October 6, a combined dispatch announced by Sunrun reached 745 megawatts, and that more than 85,000 Tesla Powerwall owners supplied over 600 megawatts of it. That beat the previous residential record of 580 megawatts, set less than a month earlier, by about 28 percent. The batteries discharged through evening peaks at the request of state energy officials and utilities, easing demand and pushing down real time prices. Participating homeowners are paid for helping, turning rooftop systems into a shared resource that keeps the grid steadier for everyone.
